'Brother Love' the Musical

7:00 pm

In the summer of '78, two students began collaboration on a biblically based musical. By the end of the following summer, Bill Kennedy and Doug Mills had written, directed and starred in the Crossroads production of Brother Love. Audiences were ecstatic. Though their paths diverged over the years, both still nurtured the hope that their original work would be improved upon and produced again.

Thirty-three years later, Bill (who wrote the book and lyrics) is now Dr. William Kennedy, a tenured full professor and Director of Theater at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He has written plays and musicals for colleges, churches and summer-stock theaters.
Doug (who wrote the music) now lives in Cumming, GA after having toured with theater groups, leading worship, and performing and recording with stars such as Amy Grant and Sandi Patti. It is his extreme pleasure to be producing an updated version of Brother Love locally this summer.

The musical's story is a retelling of the events found in I Samuel set in the hills with a bluegrass/gospel feel. "I tell folks it's like Oh Brother Where Art Thou meets David and Goliath", says Mills with a grin. "It's hilarious, encouraging and uplifting. I'm so happy we've finally finished completely rewriting it."

The show will run Thursday - Sunday, July 19th through the 29th at 7pm (Sunday matinees at 2:30pm) at the Cumming Baptist Church. Admission is $10.
