The Olympic Way

By: Margaret Walker

Every 4 years, in case you need reminding due to hiding in a hole somewhere, the Olympics take place. How nice.

Seems the entire world gets up, stays up all to watch the Olympics. Isn't that wonderful? We have Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics. Is there nothing just designated for Spring and Fall that athletes could celebrate?

Seems to me that is a kind of 'selective ignoring'. HA HA.

Well I have other ideas. Here in my tiny house, Olympics take place every single day, every single week, every single month, and every single year... at least as long as I can take the next breath.

My Olympics covers arm movement, finger agility, regaining one's balance after a close call, climbing and descending, and a variation on that game where contestants 'sweep' on ice. Only here at my house I sweep on wooden floors.

Also I have a marathon to run every single day that goes by even in snow, sleet, rain or sun. Sort of like the postman.

At times I work in tandem with a four footed animal who tries to get me off track and it is considered 'winning' if I can maintain control the entire time. That is important as I know the directions, I can follow them and I do not get distracted by an odd smell now and then. Sometimes that can be difficult since the more she eats and the older I get, things are starting to change. HA.

However, I told her that as long as I can take a breath she WILL follow my directions or she will not eat! That seemed to get her attention but at times she gets distracted. And I secretly know that no matter what she does, she is safe and as I am so dag-gummed soft hearted!
